So, before we get started on this incredible journey, we are going to need to pack our kitchens with tools for success.
You may already have a lot of the necessary tools. But it would probably be a good idea to do a quick double check before taking off.
Stove (gas or electric it doesn't matter.)
Oven (once again gas or electric it doesn't matter)
Sink (with working water)
Dish soap (some good brands are AJAX which is known for cleaning pretty well, Dawn is great for those with sensitive skin, and Method which is more natural than the other two (you can find this brand at Target and Menards)
Scrub brushes, I would suggest getting a bottle brush and several other kinds like a regular pan brush, and a pot and pan brush. The difference between the pot and pan brush and the pan brush is that the pot and pan brush has a special part to clean the curves in a pot.
Wash Rags, you can use regular wash cloths, but I would suggest using dish cloths since they normally have a special pattern to "live" longer and clean better. I would also suggest getting some scrub sponges for when things do not go as planned when cooking.
Towels, the same goes for the towels.
Counter or Table to work on. If you do not have either I would suggest a folding table since it is able to be taken down and put back up with relative ease. This link to Walmart will show you a good size.
Measuring Cups (Cups, Tablespoons, and Teaspoons are necessary, each one normally comes in sets with different measurements)
Pots, there are several options that you can do with this item, but a word of advice Cheapest is not always the best. You can find these pretty much everywhere but read the reviews, and don't go necessarily for the cutest color, go for the best pot.
Frying pans, same thing as the pots
Saucepans (optional), same thing as the pots.
Silicone Spatulas ,are really handy for scraping leftovers into other containers or stirring cold mixes. They also insure that you are not wasting large amounts of excess mixture when cooking.
Plastic, Wood, or Metal spoons. As with everything else read the reviews and understand that not everything is going to be perfect. Plastic melts, wood can give you slivers, and metal can burn.
Turner, this handy tool is a must have for any kitchen. I would suggest metal, plastic, or wood. But with the plastic just beware that flimsy is not an asset it is a chore the link shows you a sturdy turner.
Cookie sheets or Metal baking sheets (Note: cookie sheets have one edge on only one side and baking sheets have for sides.)
Aluminum foil, I am going to leave this one up to you to find.
Parchment Paper, same as aluminum foil.
Bowls metal or glass preferably. These bowls will be for mixing. While plastic can be helpful it is not as tough as metal or glass.
Sharp knives, this is probably going to be one of the most expensive parts to any kitchen. This is because cheap is not always best. And you need several different sizes in order to accomplish different things.
Cutting Boards, just like everything else you need at least one good one in order to have kitchen success.
Cookie Scoop, this is not a necessity but it makes the cookie process sooo much easier.
Potato peeler, this is also not a must have but it makes it less likely to cut oneself when peeling things. I like the one shown in the link but go with the best option for you.
Plastic containers with lids for leftovers. This is a necessity! What would you do without these. They make the fridge much more organized.
Mixer, this is once again going to be expensive. There are several different types of mixers you can get, like a KitchenAid, but those are really expensive, or you can just get a plain hand mixer. I would suggest the second of the two options because of the price.
Apron, there are many different styles out there, but I would suggest one that covers your chest and legs. this style ensures that most of the mess ends up on the apron and not your clothing.
Willing taste testers, no link for this one! You will have to find them on your own.
Okay, so you may be thinking "Wow! There are a lot of links!" Yeah. There are a lot of links, but these links are just suggestions. You don't have to get that exact same one it won't matter. The important part is to be yourself. Set the kitchen up for you, and your success. Do some research, go shopping, and most importantly have fun with this. Until next time, Cassy.
